Day 15/16/17/and possibly 18 & 19!!!!

If you have been following my Blog you will of noticed a complete lack of updates, that is due to the lack of progress on the car – we seem to be spending days on end working on the electrics trying to get everything to work!  When I bought the kit I purchased the seperate car loom from MNR thinking it would just need the switches conneting to the loom, how wrong could I of been – we have spent days on end wiring the savage switches in trying to get it all to work.

But along with the electrics we have managed to get a few other things done and after this weekend it really seems to be coming together (hopefully!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Day 14

Another few hours spent on the car today

Firstly I replaced all the metal nuts and bolts I had been holding the rear wheel arches on with, I had heard that some of the racers / hill climbers use nylon nuts and bolts as if they get a little touch the nylon bolts break rather than the body work

I then moved onto fitting the rear lights an easy job but a lot of marking up and measuring to make sure they are all level and at the correct heights….I hope they are level if not I will just have to drive quickly so no one notices!!

Day 13

Managed to get a few hours in the garage today, I really wanted to start tidying up the wiring in the engine bay and up to the scuttle and with all the work we did yesterday I was able to get this started.

I also took the decision to trim the scuttle to allow the bonnet to fit, MNR told me the bonnet should just fit in place but I could not get the body work any further forward – so just bit the bullet and trimmed the scuttle.

After trimming the scuttle I moved onto mounting the rear arches, this was something I had wanted to do on day 12 but ran out of time.  I even (had to) dragged the wife into giving me a hand, I tried to do it on my own but it was impossible.

It is now looking even more like a car:

Day 12

Well, today was another day on the engine electrics.  As you know if you have been reading my blogwe have had major problems withtheengine electrics, the loom that was supplied was cut apart in so many places and just taped together with insulation tape.

We spent the first couple of hours checking and rechecking everything again, probably the 8th or 9thtimewe had done this, my mate Richard had spoken with Malc (Yorkshire Engines) who suggested a few other things to check, but all where in place (Malc has been great as he did not supply me my engine direct, but through MNR)

We then got back to one connector block which to date we have neither removed or done anything with, it was the tail light connector block.  Richard thought he would have a good look at this before removing it and shorted the connector back on itself, we switched on the clocks and fault ’19’ had gone from the clocks (so much for side stand switch!!!!!!!!!!)

As the fault code had gone we decided to try and fire her up – AT LAST SHE ROARED INTO LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

3 Sundays in a row working to try and get it to fire and it all came down to the rear tail light connector.

Now that it was running we set about cutting out and removing all  of the unwanted sections of the loom, as this will give a much nicer and neater finish to the electrics.  After removing most of the handle bar loom section / relays we taped it all back up together and tried to restart, we then realised we had no power to the clocks….ooooooops, we had removed something we shouldn’t of!!!!!!!!

After an hour or so of tracing back our steps and checking all the feeds to the clocks, we found that it was the ‘dimmer’ part of the loom (what ever that is) as it was split further up and gave supply to the LCD / back light part of the clocks – connected it all up and it is all working fine (panic over!)

We still have the problem with the erratic rev counter needle and hope that Malcwillbe able to help us with that this week.

Day 11

I wanted to get the body work mounted today to see if I still had a problem with the scuttle hitting the roll cage, we spent a few hours trimming the inside face of the nose cone to get it to fit over the radiator and chassis rails.

Once it was trimmed we fitted it to the car, I am really happy with the result and at last it is starting to look like a car

I still do have the problem with the scuttle as the bonnet will not fit, it is about 8mm too long but if I could move the scuttle back it would be fine, but I can’t as it touches the roll cage.

We are hoping to spend another day on the engine/electrics tomorrow, we still can’t get the engine to fire although the engine does turn over……will see what happens tomorrow
